Attention: all believers, pastors, teachers, church leaders and anyone who may be struggling with same sex attraction or homosexuality. Pastors you must be informed. Teachers must have understanding. Strugglers must hear the truth. The Body of Christ must develop the compassion of Jesus concerning these issues. In today’s culture, the complex issues of same sex attraction and homosexuality are surfacing in the personal lives of our church families. The times we live in have put this issue directly in our face. So the questions arise…How will you deal with this issue? How will we, as the church, respond? The Derritts have given the Kingdom, the Church, a unique and multi-faceted jewel. They have lived this struggle and now, with proven personal experience, masterfully composed a book that brings understanding and spiritual insight to an opaque subject. A rich facet this couple brings to light is a culturally diverse view to the topic of SSA and homosexuality. The real life/real world description of how this issue is dealt with (or not dealt with) in the African-American church is rarely reported. In their marriage Shawn and Saskia have navigated through waters that are not only racially diverse but also cross cultural. As you turn the gem once more, you will see Biblical and Spirit-Inspired concepts. The Derritts have added to this a distillation of acquired knowledge from other resources in this area. Finally, see and know that now, grace abounds for all who struggle personally and in marriage. The message is clear, change is possible; transformation and restoration are the specialty of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Derritts are an example for today, and a gift to the Kingdom of God. They proclaim in living color this bold message of exhortation. It has been my distinct privilege and honor to observe the amazing journey of this man and his wife. They have painstakingly walked, at times crawled, through all of what the Lord has asked and required of them in their restoration process. It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of endorsement for Shawn and Saskia Derritt. Their testimony will bless, encourage, deliver, and give hope to couples and individuals alike. The Lord Jesus is faithful and His mercy endures forever. If you believe this, then you will know what a blessing and benefit they will be to you and your congregation. I have known them for almost 5 years. They are very active in their home church here at Sheffield Family Life Center, where George Westlake III is the Senior Pastor. Shawn is a Worship Leader in our church that currently has a membership of over four thousand who attend each week. He is also active in the Choir Ministry. Saskia works in the Nursery Ministry and she is a tremendous blessing. This couple is truly anointed by God. Minister Derritt is an amazing psalmist. He is much more than a Worship Leader. When the Spirit of the Lord is present he is often the "lead worshiper." His sound is unique and sincere. His style is graceful and rich. Shawn is an excellent precursor to a new generation in praise and worship. |
